Multilingual Month

Multilingual Month takes place annually  between  21.2 (International Mother Language Day) and 21.3  (International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination and World Poetry Day) The idea of the Multilingual Month is to celebrate, explore and promote the possibilities of multilingualism by means of different forms of art, research, education and action in different organizations, media and schools. Multilingual Month has its own website maintained by the project Multilingualism and Diversity as a resource in the cultural field:

In Finland the Multilingual Month has been celebrated with the name Satakielikuukausi from the year 2015 in different cultural centres, libraries and educational institutions. The programme includes multimedia poetry readings in diverse languages, seminars, workshops, encounters with poets and exhibitions. It is coorganized by several associations in the cultural field.

21.2: International Mother Language Day is a worldwide annual observance announced by UNESCO to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.

21.3: International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (UN) coincides with World Poetry Day (UNESCO).
