Speakers:

Johanna Domokos is a researcher, translator and promotor of Sámi literature. She teaches at the University of Bielefeldt in Germany. Together with her students she has translated works of Rauni Magga Lukkari and Inger-Mari Aikio into German and edited the book Erbmütter – Welttöchter (2014).

Irene Piippola is librarian at the Sámi Special Library in Finland and a promoter and translator of Sámi literature.  She is the editor and one of the translators of Cáŋa gillii! : sámi girjjálašvuohta – Saamelainen kirjallisuus –  Sami Fiction (2015).

Anne Wuolab works as a writer and cultural journalist in Lycksele, Sweden, and is the Chairwoman of the Sámi writer’s association in Sweden, Bago čálliid siebrie. She is one of the founders of Jokkmokk writers’ school. Her latest novel Ii šat summal (2018) portrays contemporary Sámi life.

Elin Anna Labba is a journalist living in Jåhkåmåhkke currently working on a book about compulsory transfers of Sámi people. She has been editor for the Sámi magazines Nuorat and Samefolket and is also a board member of Bágo čálliid siebre, the Sámi writer’s association in Sweden.

Kirste Paltto is a Sámi author who writes mainly in Northern Sámi. She has also been the chairperson of Sámi writer’s union (1979-1986), the director of the Sámi Rávgoš theatre (1994-2003) and she has been active in many other Sámi culture organizations. In her works she draws upon Sámi mythology and storytelling traditions. She has published widely e.g. children’s and youth literature, short-stories, novels, plays and non-fiction. Her books have been translated into several languages, including Finnish, German, Norwegian, English, Inari Sámi and Hungarian. Paltto currently resides in Utsjoki.

Kaisa Ahvenjärvi is a researcher on and translator of contemporary Sámi Poetry. Her latest publication Tuulisolmut was an anthology of contemporary Sámi poetry from Norway with works of Hege Siri, Rawdna Carita Eira, Irene Larsen and Sigbjørn Skåden.

Kerttu Vuolab is a Finnish Sámi author, illustrator translator and songwriter, who has made it her life mission to ensure that the Sámi oral tradition, language and culture are passed on to future generations of Sámi through multiple media types. Her works have been translated into other Sámi languages such as Inari and Skolt Sámi as well as non-Sámi languages such as Swedish, Finnish and English.

Milja Guttorm is the Regional Artist on City-Sámi Culture at The Arts Promotion Centre, Finland.
