Culture for all is looking for a researcher for a report about the situation of Sámi literature in the Nordic region. The work will be carried out as an assignment during the period 1.10.2017-1.3.2018 and it is expected to take approximately three months of full-time work. For the assignment, a fee of 7800 euros is paid.
The purpose of the investigation is to map the Sámi literary field and Sámi writers’ opportunities in the Nordic region. The investigation is part of Culture for All’s project “Multilingualism and Diversity as a resource in the cultural field – Employment and Integration through Literature in the Nordic Countries“. The purpose of the project is to promote the work opportunities of non-dominant language writers in the Nordic region.
The work requires knowledge of Sámi language(s), appropriate education and experience in making reports and/or investigations. In the recruitment, we place special emphasis on the applicant’s expertise in the Sámi literary field, in cultural policy and in Sámi authors’ position in the Nordic literary field.
The language of the investigation is English and the applicant is expected to be able to access material and texts written also in Sámi and in Nordic languages.
The researcher should also be prepared to attend meetings on the investigation via skype and, if possible, also in Culture for all’s premises in Helsinki.

“Multilingualism and diversity as a resource in the cultural field – Employment and Integration Through Literature in the Nordic Countries” project’s core themes are the promotion of equality, gender equality, democracy and participation in the Nordic region. The project approaches these themes via three different inputs: 1) work opportunities in the literary field, 2) integration through literature and 3) intercultural communication. The project is a sub-project for the priority project “An open and innovative Nordic Region with wealthy people 2020 – Equal opportunities for welfare, education, culture and work” coordinated by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, and the Ministry of Employment and the Economy.
